The Story of
Medieval Artisans Volume 1
Medieval Artisans is a new series of models that specifically covers merchant
and artisan professions in a late medieval or early rennaisance setting. Medieval
Artisans does not attempt to be historically accurate, but to have a wide appeal
for historical or fantasy use. Rather than emphasizing the fantastic, this series
expands upon the living Old City - because not every inhabitant of a city is
a knight, noble, priest or wizard.
The Village Series
Meshbox Design's Village series of models are extremely popular with artists
and animators. Medieval Artisans Volume 1 is a new extension on to that series
of models.
- Strong Outside Value. The Village Series of
models are designed to not only "fill in a background" but
also provide "inside" functionality. Designs are logical
where possible, inside and out.
- Continuing Logic. The Village Series volumes
are usually based around a specific culture. There may be variations
from one volume to the next but there is an internal consistency
so that its possible to mix one group with another.
The Models
The series includes the following models released to date...
- Medieval Boot and Shoe Maker (aka Medieval Bootmaker).
Meshbox Design's Medieval Bootmaker is a two room building, complete
with a front store area and a back room where boots and shoes are
created and repaired. Includes 16 sets of shoes and boots, and
they include their own dedicated texture and bump maps.
- Medieval
Candle Maker. Meshbox Design's Medieval Artisan series
presents Medieval Candlemaker! This small building has some friendly
touches like flowerboxes on the windows. Inside, finished candles
await sale on a shelf, while in the back, a fireplace is available
for heating wax. The candle maker then pours the wax into candle
molds, then in turn hangs them for drying.
- Medieval Blacksmith. Meshbox Design's Medieval
Artisan series presents Medieval Blacksmith! The blacksmith building
fits in many eras, because it features ageless equipment used by
smiths for hundreds of years. This building can be entered through
double barn doors or through a customer side entrance. Inside,
you will find a forge, two anvils and workbenches with tools and
nails.
- Medieval Bookmaker. Meshbox Design's Medieval
Artisan series presents Medieval Book Maker! The book maker crafts
the finest vellum from calfskin, stretching it on racks. This is
trimmed and crafted into scrolls, or into pages for books. One
half of the building is a work room, whereas a show room is set
up where customers can view finished books and scrolls available
in a large viewing rack.
- Medieval Cabinet Maker.Meshbox Design's Medieval
Artisan series presents Medieval Cabinet Maker! The cabinet maker
looks
deceptively
simple - his one room work shop containing pre-cut and lathed wood,
with two additional work tables. Over 15 hand tools are available!
- Medieval Glass Blower. The glass blower uses
a large and hot kiln, and displays his wares along shelves - 18
glass worker tools and fifteen glasswork pieces are available as
props! This complete building is must-have for any typical medieval
or early renaisance city scene.
- Medieval Tailor. The medieval tailor is a one
room building with three different work areas - where three different
seamstresss can work with rolls of fabric, spindles and mannaquins
to create both practical and decorative clothing. Comes with several
medieval tailoring tools and props. The non-demo version also is
highly reusable as a home of a gentry or tradesman family.
- Medieval
Apothecary (BONUS MODEL). The medieval apothecary is a shop
of many cabinets, potions and various cures. Three work areas are
available, with several reference tomes on shelves and laying about.
A step ladder reaches upwards towards a small nook where the master
apothecary can study and review his texts at length. Of special interest
in this model set are the cabinets that feature drawers and doors
- more than simple shelves to hold potions.
