The Story of
Medieval Village New Construction Volume 1
Meshbox Design's Medieval Village New Construction series is a set of historical,
medieval models the exemplify expansion - buildings that are focused on building
social infrastructure or buildings that are, in themselves, being built as they
are used.
The Village Series
Meshbox Design's Village series of models are extremely popular with artists
and animators. Medieval Village New Construction Volume 1 is a new extension on to that series
of models.
- Strong Outside Value. The Village Series of
models are designed to not only "fill in a background" but
also provide "inside" functionality. Designs are logical
where possible, inside and out.
- Continuing Logic. The Village Series volumes
are usually based around a specific culture. There may be variations
from one volume to the next but there is an internal consistency
so that its possible to mix one group with another.
The Models
The series includes the following models released to date...
- Medieval Ironworks.
Medieval Ironworks is loosely based on the medieval ironworks in Duddon,
Cambria. Water powers bellows to control the heat of the melted
ore, which is processed and then transformed into bars and ingots.
It is a dark, mysterious building that is appropriate for mid to
late medieval periods but could exist in some places - even today.
Includes props: ironworks, gear mechanism, blast furnace, bucket,
iron bar, ironworks demo, spade, water wheel, water wheel demo,
iron wheel barrow, wooden wheel barrow.
- Medieval Lumber Camp. Medieval Lumber Camp is a collection of
three different types of buildings - a storage building for housing
seasoned lumber, a small and lightweight sleep house that can be
duplicated again and again, and the mill itself. One milling table
shows early mechanization with a saw powered by water power. Medieval
Lumber Camp is designed for the middle ages or later, but works
well over hundreds of years of history.Includes props: axe, cross-cut
saw, cutting camp demo, cutting house, cutting house demo, dwelling
house, dwelling house demo, hammer, lumber camp bed, manual table
saw, stool, storage house demo, table, wheel powered table saw
.
- Unfinished Medieval Church. Unfinished Medieval
Church is either in process of being restored, or being built.
The inner sanctum
is finished and ready for services, however outer stone is still
being laid, as well as the entrance. Scaffolding surrounds the
otherwise functional bell tower. Includes props: church, altar, altarroom,
bell, big cross, cross, builder's frames (small and tall), stained
glass demo, chain, ladder, lectern, pew, stained glass metal cross
piece, stained glass frame.
- Unfinished Medieval Church. Unfinished Medieval Tower is a work
in progress - the barbican entry and pully gears are in place,
and
several
sentry
towers are
almost ready. Yet the tower itself is only at two floors, with
a winch and plenty of raw materials at hand to finish.Includes props:
bed, bench, board, brick 1, brick 2, framework, grated gate, main
support stone column, mechanical door, stool, table, tower, tower
demo, winch.
- Medival Stone Cutter. Unfinished Medieval
Tower is a work in progress - the barbican entry and pully gears
are in place, and several sentry towers are almost ready. Yet the
tower itself is only at two floors, with a winch and plenty of raw
materials at hand to finish.Includes props: bed, bench, board, brick
1, brick 2, framework, grated gate, main support stone column, mechanical
door, stool, table, tower, tower demo, winch.
- Medieval Prison. The medieval prison isnt even finished yet (scaffoldings around two towers, and a partially assembled gallows), and its already a depressing place! Two stair cases give access to the upper walls and the roof of the holding building. A solid, geared gateway keeps outlaws out (or in). Extras include scattered tools and a partially built gallows that works well in any part of town. Includes props: basket (!), grate, grated gate, prison, prison demo, prison bench, scaffolding, gallows, wheel and wheel towered gate.
- Medieval Shipyard. The medieval shipyard is a useful collection of parts - a central building where special boats are buit - covered and well stocked with tools and barrels (of binding and oils). In addition, parts of boats (mast, oars, ribs, boat base) can be placed around in piles, and additional boats in different stages of development can be placed outside. The shipyard is a messy and confusing place, but a part of any town that has access to the ocean or a large river. Includes props: axe, barrel, boat base, board, boat, boat rib, mast, nail, hammer, oar, saw, scaffolding, shipyard, shipyard demo.
- Medieval Fulling Mill. Before wool becomes fine linen, it must be cleaned and prepared, and that is the job of a town Fuller. This building has a main fulling room powered by a waterwheel, with storage of both raw and finished wool in both ends and in a loft. Included props: basket, fulling mill, fulling mill demo, hummer mill, hummer mill demo (the "picking" device), waterwheel, waterwheel mechanism, ladder, raw wool, finished wool, rise, wool sack, wool brush 1, wool brush 2.
